It’s not often that you find a bona fide nobleman who is also a successful business leader. One of the few people who have both these traits is Count Gustaf Archibal Siegwart Douglas. He was born on March 3, 1938 and the oldest son of Count Carl Ludvig Douglas, a Swedish nobleman who was a Royal Swedish Ambassador to Brazil.

Gustaf obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1964. He has worked in Sweden and between 1973 and 1980 was CEO of the newspapers Dagen Nyheter and Expressen.  A defining moment in his career was the year 1984 when he founded his company Investment AB Latour. Through this company he controls Securitas AB, one of the largest publicly traded security companies as well as Assa Abloy, the world’s largest producer of locks. It is also through this company that he has a major stake in Fagerhult AB, a producer of light fixtures in Sweden.

Gustaf has been involved politics. In 2001, he was elected to the board of the Moderate Party. In his teens he also actively campaigned for what was the forerunner of the Moderates. Gustaf is now more of a Conservative Moderate and focusing on education policy. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

He married Elisabeth von Essen who also comes from another noble family line. Gustaf may belong to an old family but he has kept up with the times and has even participated shaping his country’s future through his involvement in politics.
